$2 SCRATCHIES

Originating from Canberra, Australia, the $2 Scratchies, comprised of DJ’s Mexi and No Name Nath, have been tearing it up at Hip-Hop, Funk, Dancehall, Dubstep and Breaks nights since their formation in early 2003.
Both accomplished DJ’s in their own right, they can (and will openly) brag a host of titles and tour supports between them, from multiple gigs with Japan’s DJ Krush to a semi-secret support with the late, great Roc Raida.

Described as ‘one of the most exciting acts in Canberra’ their sets comprise a plethora of sounds and genres mixed, scratched, cut and mashed live on 3 turntables.

No Name Nath, a two time ACT DMC DJ Champion, having represented Canberra at the Australian finals in both 2001 and 2002, is an active club and support DJ. If he’s not playing at one of his regular gigs around Melbourne he’s backing mates Maggot Mouf and Dekoda for their live Hip-Hop stage shows.

Mexi, winner of the 2001 Noise ‘Triple J Mix-Up’ competition, was a major organiser and promoter of ‘Beat Root’—the monthly event that single-handedly laid the ground work for Canberra’s once thriving Breaks scene.
He cut his teeth in the Canberra Hip-Hop scene, rapping and DJing as a member of the Hospice Crew with fellow members; Ciecmate, Newsense, Rhys, Paranoia, Ayre and Smokey Brindo.
Having relocated from Melbourne to San Diego in early 2010, he’s been busying himself with bedroom mixes and the art of swap meet digging.
