Soundcloud is officially shit.
A few months back I uploaded a mix I did for the Sunday Roast radio show, complete with tracklisting. Today I get the following email from Soundcloud:
Hi Mexi,
Your upload “DJ Mexi – The Sunday Roast Mix” may include content that is owned or licensed by Def Jam/RAL ("Going Back To Cali" (LL Cool J)) and has been made inaccessible on SoundCloud by request of the rightsholder.
If you are certain that you have all necessary permissions from the rightsholder to upload and share this content, you can submit a claim here:
http://soundcloud.com/settings/disputes/113097Thanks,
The SoundCloud team
I let them have a piece of my mind. Can’t wait to see what they come back with.
So it looks like I won’t be using Soundcloud anymore. Shame really cos they offered a pretty cool service.
If anyone wants to enjoy my mix sucker-free then you can stream it here:

thas what you get for playing other chump’s beats
You uploaded music you don’t own the rights too, and soundcloud removed it? And as a result they are shit? My God you’re an idiot.
Yep, I used approx .59 seconds of a song (owned by a label that releases 12″s for DJs) in a DJ MIX on a sight that hosts DJ Mixes – recordings that by their very nature are created and shared without licensing or permission. The second that Soundscloud copped any heat from a major they removed the file.
Given that a large part of their success came from DJs uploading mixes and spreading the word to their fellow DJs, as well as in the fees paid for the extra minutes needed to host lenghty mixes, their actions are a slap in the face to both myself and anyone that’s ever used their service to host mixes. How many people on there do you think have got permission for the songs in their DJ mixes? Very few I’d bet.
It would be different if I was selling unlicensed songs on iTunes or ever streaming complete songs on Soundcloud, but I’m not.
So yes, Soundcloud are shit.
Thanks for your feedback.
I’m with you Mexi – I’m a DJ who has recently forked out another 79 euros in order to continue my Soundcloud premium subscription for another year as I’ve enjoyed a great service up until now uploading my mixes and sharing them with friends and fans. Last night I got the same message from Soundcloud saying they’ve blocked my mix. Now I can understand if they are getting heat from labels but I’ve just paid for another years worth of hosting so what am I supposed to do? Just not upload anything and hope my existing mixes will be strong enough to sustain my reputation? I don’t think so.
To Zep, I’m not an idiot for thinking that I could continue my mixes unfettered as there has been no precedent for this on Soundcloud before. As people in other forums have stated on this topic, I’m not re-selling the music, the end user has no opportunity to download the individual song for free, it’s used in a promotional mix which is what dj’s have been doing since their inception. If the case is that Soundcloud are now restricted in their ability to host our mixes because labels are cracking down then I think it’s only fair that their subscribers are given the chance to opt out and get a refund. As I said this hasn’t been an issue in the past, it’s just recently that they have started monitoring content like Youtube does – so us the customer has been led to believe that either Soundcloud was working in a legal loophole or that labels were happy to turn a blind eye. Either way it looks like this is the death of Soundcloud for dj’s.
SoundCloud is great, but I couldn’t justify spending anything on it.
You dumbass, it’s called copyright, and Soundcloud won’t get sued millions so you can put your shitty mix online.
As I’ve already stated, Soundcloud cut their teeth on DJ mixes. That’s a major point to the WHOLE FUCKING SITE! It exists for my shitty mixes and your shitty production so get off their dick.
Same thing happened to me. I OWN all the music (bought it of Beatport) and they shut me down. F&&& idiots, I use my own hosting. Soundcloud sucks, don’t use it
dude.. i wish all those fag dj’s would get the fuck off soundcloud. they’re all so bad. far as your specific bullshit (i still can’t believe you guys think this is music) – it has nothing to do with soundcloud.. Def Jam is the one that filed the complaint.
FUCK soundcloud.
It tells me that im being abusive when I try to send my “friend musicians” more than 2 fucking messages.
Why would you offer a service that works .. and then slowly make it shitier and shitier until it does not work! & no body wants to use it anymore (cough)myspace(cough)
And the coke binging, $1million dollar per year earning, shmucks, who thrive off of 16 year old boys who want to post their fucking DJ mixs… brutal… kids are starving, being raped, brainwashed & fucking killed.. and we have copy right laws !??!?!?!
WE are pussy’s.
“if you have paid for soundcloud .. you have paid into the idea of the end (2012) ..
good luck fagots
Thanks for your comment Todd.
If it wasn’t for all those fag DJs Soundcloud probably wouldn’t be as big as it is today. As for your opinion on what is or is not music, that’s irrelevant. Def Jam made the complaint and Soundcloud dropped to their knees. They could’ve told Def Jam to take a walk.
Wow. Try creating something instead.
Thanks Buzz Stroke. I’m sure your creative efforts are much more deserving of the label ‘art’. Good advice buddy. Keep plugging away and maybe one of the majors trawling Soundcloud for copyright infringes will stumble across your humble compositions and snap you up. Fingers croseed!
What I want to know is how all these Soundcloud loyalists keep finding this post? Pretty sure you get nothing unless you actually search ‘fuck soundcloud’. God forbid that your holy music hosting site has spurned you enough to type that blasphemous phrase into your browser.
